Israel approves national hydrogen pipeline to boost clean energy

JERUSALEM, May 6 (Xinhua) — Israel’s National Planning and Building Council has approved the construction of a 400-kilometer national hydrogen pipeline, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure announced on Tuesday.

The pipeline is slated to extend from the Jezreel Valley in northern Israel to the village of Eilot, near the Red Sea port city of Eilat in the far south.

The ministry stated the project aims to cut emissions and boost the proportion of clean energy in Israel’s power generation mix. Designed to traverse industrial zones, the pipeline will offer factories currently reliant on polluting fuels a cleaner alternative in hydrogen.

The planning phase for the pipeline is anticipated to conclude by year-end, with private sector investment expected to fund the project
