Korea – Province to secure 1,200 hydrogen-powered buses by 2030
Chungcheongnam-do Province plans to expand its number of hydrogen buses from 48 to 1,200 by 2030.
The Ministry of Environment on Dec. 6 said it signed a business agreement Cheonan City Hall in Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do, to promote the distribution of such buses and set up related fueling stations in the province with the provincial government, Hyundai Motor, SK Innovation E&S, IBK Securities and the province’s bus association.
Through this partnership, the province aims to expand the supply of such buses to strengthen its eco-friendly transportation system based on hydrogen to reduce greenhouse gases and improve air quality.
As of last month, the province had 48 buses and 1,605 cars powered by hydrogen along with 24 related fueling stations. A recently announced plan to back the expansion of hydrogen-propelled transportation aims to convert 1,200 buses into hydrogen vehicles by 2030 and build 67 more large-capacity fueling stations at bus depots.
Vice Minister of Environment Lee Byounghwa said,
The Ministry of Environment will continue steady efforts to achieve carbon neutrality and spare no administrative and financial support to help Chungcheongnam-do transition to hydrogen-propelled transportation and create a clean and sustainable future.
