Mantle8 Joins Hydrogen Europe to Accelerate Role of Natural Hydrogen in Europe’s Energy Transition
- Hydrogen Europe acknowledges strategic importance of natural hydrogen
Grenoble, France | 22 May 2025 – Mantle8, the French geoscience company pioneering natural hydrogen exploration, has officially joined Hydrogen Europe, the leading industry association representing the hydrogen value chain across the continent. The move marks a strategic milestone in Mantle8’s mission to establish natural hydrogen as a low-cost, climate-neutral pillar of Europe’s long-term energy mix.
Hydrogen Europe brings together over 600 companies and organisations advancing the hydrogen economy – from production and infrastructure to mobility, and now, with Mantle8’s entry, natural hydrogen exploration. Mantle8’s membership highlights growing interest in natural hydrogen as a continuous, low-emissions domestic resource – and its potential to underpin a zero-emission society.
As a member of Hydrogen Europe, Mantle8 will contribute to working groups on regulation, certification, and geological sourcing – helping shape the standards and frameworks needed to integrate natural hydrogen into Europe’s decarbonisation plans. This aligns with the European Commission’s recent move to launch an EU-wide initiative to map and assess natural hydrogen occurrences, underscoring growing institutional momentum. As interest builds, natural hydrogen is increasingly recognised as a key enabler of European energy sovereignty, climate neutrality and long-term energy resilience.
Emmanuel Masini, Founder and CEO of Mantle8, said:
Mantle8 was founded to radically shift how we understand and unlock the Earth’s own hydrogen production systems,
“Joining Hydrogen Europe gives us a strong voice in the conversations shaping policy, investment and innovation around hydrogen’s future – and ensures natural hydrogen has a seat at the table.”
Mantle8’s suite of proprietary modelling tools map complete underground hydrogen-generating systems – from source rock to reservoir – identifying viable hydrogen reserves with unprecedented accuracy. The company recently confirmed some of the highest recorded soil-gas hydrogen concentrations at its Comminges prospect in southwest France, validating its technology and reinforcing the commercial case for natural hydrogen.
