METLEN Joins the H2GLASS Consortium as Replicability Demonstrator for the Aluminium Sector

The H2GLASS Consortium is pleased to announce that METLEN, a industrial company in Athens , Greece has officially joined the project as the replicability demonstrator for the aluminium sector, reinforcing H2GLASS’s mission to accelerate hydrogen adoption in energy‑intensive industries.

H2GLASS is paving the way for a climate-neutral future by developing and demonstrating a complete technology stack that enables 100% hydrogen combustion in industrial energy-intensive processes. The consortium also brings together key partners such as Steinbeis Europa Zentrum, responsible for dissemination, communication, and exploitation activities, ensuring that project results are effectively shared, valorised, and translated into real industrial applications.

Chiara Caccamo, Project Coordinator of H2GLASS, said:

We are delighted to welcome METLEN to the consortium,

“Their participation strengthens our cross-sector approach and allows us to test H2GLASS innovations in a real-world aluminium production context. This is a significant step towards replicable, scalable solutions for Europe’s most energy-intensive industries.”

As part of this effort, the consortium includes several full-scale demonstrators from the European glass industry and one dedicated replicability demonstrator for aluminium applications. This ensures that the project’s innovations are transferable beyond glass manufacturing and contribute to decarbonisation across multiple sectors.

By joining as the replicability demonstrator, METLEN will support the assessment of how H2GLASS technologies can be adapted to aluminium production environments, an industry known for its high energy demand. The collaboration will enable METLEN and the consortium’s technical partners to explore hydrogen-based combustion, process optimisation, and digital control architectures that can reduce emissions while maintaining product quality and operational reliability.

As the new replicability demonstrator, METLEN plays a crucial role in showcasing the transferability of H2GLASS solutions to other hard-to-abate industries. A strong focus will be placed on developing a comprehensive exploitation roadmap, supported by Steinbeis Europa Zentrum, to ensure that validated technologies can be effectively transferred to market and scaled across sectors. This approach will support increased market uptake of hydrogen-based solutions and strengthen the project’s long-term impact beyond the glass industry.
