Mexico – Green hydrogen and ammonia plant in the Isthmus will start operations in 2028
The green hydrogen and ammonia plant in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec will not begin operations until 2028, reported Juan Carlos Vera Minjares , general director of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
At the People’s Morning Press Conference, headed by President Claudia Sheinbaum, Vera Minjares explained that the project is in the phase of public assemblies and indigenous consultations and that construction would begin in 2026.

The development hub for the well-being of Ciudad Ixtepec has a vocation for the production of green ammonia and is in the stage of public assembly and indigenous consultations and will soon begin the information phase and environmental studies,
“Helax plans to begin construction in 2026 and operations in 2028. We are working together with authorities from all three levels of government to properly complete all processes and support the work programs for this important project.”
According to information from the newspaper Reforma , Helax , a Danish capital company, will make an investment of 10 billion dollars in a green hydrogen project , one of the bets of the federal Administration in environmental matters.
The project is being developed in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec by the subsidiary of the Danish company Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), as part of the investment hub program initiated by former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador .
According to the Navy , the national newspaper said that the Helax-Istmo project is focused on the production of hydrogen and green ammonia on a large scale for industrial use and as marine fuel.
