Motive Fuels regrets to announce closing two London hydrogen refuelling stations.
Motive Fuels regrets to announce that we will be closing our two London hydrogen refuelling stations at Rainham and Teddington on 26 May 2023. Since opening in 2016 the stations have served hydrogen cars around London. Following a recent review of our station performance we do not see sufficient demand to support the investment needed to continue the station operation.
Motive will continue to operate the stations in Birmingham and Sheffield and develop new sites for large vehicles where we anticipate greater benefit from hydrogen.
We recognise these closures will be disruptive for customers and apologise for that. Motive has notified all customers directly and is working to support alternative supply where possible.
Q&A
Why is Motive closing the stations?
We have invested over £2million per year to sustain our car focused stations but have taken the decision that there is not sufficient demand to continue make this investment.
With Motive closing down the sites does this mean that Motive is exiting the marketplace?
Not at all. We are focusing on large vehicle refuelling and the closure of these sites is a reflection of their small footprints from them being the first of a kind and prototypes which we have learned from allowing us to improve our future network.
Are there other sites that we can refuel at?
There are a number of alternative locations that are still available for refuelling. You can see the alternative locations on the H2live Website or App
