De Heus Voeders is purchasing a hydrogen truck as part of its strategy to make its transport process more sustainable. The vehicle is scheduled for delivery in 2026, after which it will be extensively tested.
The truck is equipped with a hydrogen combustion engine, offering a CO₂-emission-free alternative to diesel transport. The required hydrogen will be produced using sustainable energy. De Heus is collaborating with Fieten Olie, which will build a new hydrogen filling station in Steenwijk.

The investment aligns with broader developments in the transport sector, including the introduction of the truck levy in 2026 and the ETS2 emissions trading system in 2027. These measures encourage companies to reduce their emissions.
subsidy scheme
The government supports this transition with subsidies, including the Hydrogen in Mobility Subsidy Scheme (SWIM). On September 16, 2025, this subsidy was awarded to a consortium of De Heus, Fieten Olie, and other transport companies.
No adjustments
According to De Heus, the chosen technology offers comparable performance and driving comfort to diesel, meaning no adjustments to logistics or planning are required. The company sees the use of hydrogen as an important step in making its logistics processes more sustainable.
