Oracle Power Advances Green Hydrogen Production in Pakistan With Feasibility Study.

Oracle Power, in collaboration with China Electric Power Equipment and Technology (CET) and Shanghai Investigation, Design and Research Institute (SIDRI), has completed a notable technical and commercial feasibility study for a proposed hybrid renewable power plant in Pakistan. This ambitious project is aimed at fostering green hydrogen and green ammonia production in the region.

Project Highlights

Located in the wind corridor of Sindh province, the joint venture envisions to set up a 400 MW green hydrogen production facility with an impressive annual output of 55,000 tonnes. The study reveals plans to boost the plant’s solar power capacity to 800 MW, an upgrade from the initial 700 MW, in addition to 500 MW of wind power and 450 MWh of battery energy storage. The site’s solar energy resource has been given a grade A rating, reinforcing its potential for renewable energy production.

Regulatory and Environmental Considerations

The feasibility study also addressed vital regulatory and environmental considerations, positioning the Thatta district plant for potential future green hydrogen supply to Pakistan and its neighboring economies. It marks a significant step towards the realization of Oracle Power’s vision of making Pakistan a key player in the global green hydrogen market.

Transportation and Infrastructure

Oracle Power and CET are also exploring viable options for the safe and cost-effective transportation of green hydrogen. Karachi’s infrastructure, home to two world-class ports, could potentially serve as a crucial gateway for hydrogen supply. The completion of the study moves Oracle Power and its partners towards the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) stage. They are now focusing on completing grid interconnectivity studies, geotechnical, and environmental studies, paving the way for confirming potential off-take and financing arrangements.
