Petronor, the Álava Provincial Council and Talgo will promote the renewable hydrogen economy in the Territory – Spain.

Petronor , the Álava Provincial Council and Talgo join forces to promote the development of a renewable hydrogen economy in Álava.

The three entities have signed an alliance that will favor industrial and technological development around renewable hydrogen, giving Alava companies the opportunity to grow sustainably and allowing the Territory to advance in the energy transition.

The alliance, open to the incorporation of new entities that wish to join, responds to the commitment of the Álava Provincial Council to promote the decarbonisation of industry and transport, facilitating technological updating to enable sustainable mobility based on renewable hydrogen as fuel.

A scenario towards which it will advance hand in hand with Petronor and Talgo.

Specifically, Petronor will develop the necessary infrastructures for the supply of competitive renewable hydrogen that can supply industry and companies in the transport sector in Álava. The objective is to progressively introduce low-carbon hydrogen, until reaching the total consumption of renewable hydrogen.

As for Talgo’s contribution, the company will carry out the development project for the Vittal One, commuter-regional and hydrogen-powered train, included in the Basque Hydrogen Corridor, at its Ribabellosa plant in Alava.

Emiliano López Atxurra, for the President of Petronor:

This agreement signed today is one more step in the consolidation of a public-private commitment to renewable hydrogen as a key energy source to address the energy transition, to the extent that it will contribute decisively in the decarbonisation of mobility and industry.

“At the same time, it constitutes a unique opportunity to develop the techno-industrial value chain necessary for its consolidation”.

In his speech, the deputy general Ramiro González has shown that “hydrogen is necessary for the energy transition and the fight against climate change, and this agreement demonstrates the firm commitment that administrations and companies have to advance in decarbonization at through this way.” Thanks for staying up to date with Hydrogen Central.

Carlos Palacio Oriol, the president of Talgo has indicated that:

The agreement that we have signed today is undoubtedly the future of decarbonized, sustainable mobility and in which we cannot go hand in hand with better allies such as Petronor and the Provincial Council.

“Foral of Alava. The hydrogen train is already a technological reality that Talgo is developing with its own technology and that we will test next March”.
