Port of Aberdeen awarded £200,000 from UK Government to accelerate net zero plans, hydrogen included.
The news comes after the Port of Aberdeen’s chief executive, Bob Sanguinetti, provided an update on the progress of the £400million South Harbour project.
The UK Government has awarded the Port of Aberdeen more than £200,000 in order to “accelerate” the port’s aims of achieving net zero by 2040.
The Port Zero feasability study is to analyse future port power demands, assess low carbon energy sources for equipment and develop methods of decarbonising its operations.
Port of Aberdeen is also partnering on a shipping study to develop a “detailed project plan” for the world’s first hydrogen-powered, zero-emission crossing to Norway in 2024, described as an economically important potential green shipping corridor.

Mr Bob Sanguinetti said:

“Our goal is to accelerate the transition to net zero through the development and introduction of innovative technology and processes which reduce emissions for the port, its users and supply chain.”
