For modern rail maintenance, emission-free and noise-free CleanTech innovations are in demand. Especially in subway tunnels, forward-looking renewable energy supply represents an improvement from an ecological point of view in favor of the desired CO2 neutrality.
This benefits not only the environment, but above all the operating crew on the track.
After successful production and delivery in 2021 of the hydrogen fuel cell system “HyRail®” from “Proton Motor Fuel Cell GmbH” (www.proton-motor.de) to the Austrian customer “Linsinger Maschinenbau Gesellschaft m.b.H.” (www.linsinger.com), the new rail milling train type “MG 11 Hydrogen” is now being presented to the public for the first time.

In the run-up to this year’s track technology trade fair “iaf” in Münster/North Rhine-Westphalia, the rail innovation was eagerly awaited by the specialist sector.
Hydrogen fuel cells from Proton Motor for the decarbonization of the the transport transition
For the hydrogen-powered special railway construction machine, Proton Motor has tailor-made the emission-free “HyRail®” solution as a multi-stack system with 214 kW installed power – consisting of two fully redundant systems of 107 kW each.
In addition to the world first “MG 11 Hydrogen” as an alternative to model series with diesel engines, Proton Motor is also established as a partner for other customer-specific rail projects.
For example, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in 2021 with the Prague-based company “Thein Industry” (www.thein.eu), whose subsidiary “Hydrogenic Technology” focuses on the supplying of solutions as well as the integration of hydrogen technologies into rail and road transport.
At the international “Rail Business Days” in the Czech Republic at the beginning of June, a Proton Motor trade fair fuel cell display will be exhibited with the context that hydrogen fuel cells will complement Thein Industry’s portfolio with clean, green drive systems in order to promote the decarbonization of the transport transition.
