PWC – Four Japanese motorcycle manufacturers have formed a hydrogen engine technology research consortium, aiming to collaborate with industry, government, academia and suppliers
Toward the realization of a carbon-neutral society, multi-pathway efforts are required in the energy sector. One promising option is the realization of hydrogen internal combustion engine technology for small mobility vehicles.
PwC Consulting LLC has been selected for a project by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), a national research and development agency, and has established a study committee chaired by Professor Emeritus Masahiro Shioji of Kyoto University, and consisting of Hiroya Ueda, Satoshiaki Ichi, Yoshinari Ninomiya, and Akitoshi Nakajima of the Hydrogen Small Mobility Engine Research Association (HySE) as members. The committee has been analyzing the advantages of the technology, identifying issues and considering solutions in order to realize hydrogen internal combustion engine technology for small mobility vehicles.
This time, we invited Professor Emeritus Shioji and representatives from NEDO and the Hydrogen Small Mobility Engine Research Association (HySE), which aims to establish design guidelines for small mobility vehicles equipped with hydrogen engines, to hold a discussion. In the second part, we will introduce the importance of research and development of hydrogen engines in collaboration with industry, government, and academia, and the discussion on specific issues.
