Railways: New tenders for hydrogen trains in Calabria and Sardinia.
The implementation of the investments envisaged by the Complementary Fund to the PNRR for the introduction of hydrogen trains in various Italian regions is proceeding at a rapid pace.
Among all, two have some news to talk about, which we discover thanks to an article by hydronews.
In Calabria, in implementation of the interventions financed by the Decree of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility n. 363 of 23 September 2021 (with resources coming, in fact, from the Complementary Fund to the PNRR), with reference to the intervention program for the upgrading of regional railway lines, the company Ferrovie della Calabria Srl published a related call for tenders in the European Official Gazette to the “supply of hydrogen powered railcars”.
In detail, the procedure concerns the supply of 5 hydrogen powered railcarsfor a total value of 65 million euros; the option (which Ferrovie della Calabria will be able to decide whether or not to exercise) for ‘full service’ assistance to the 5 railcars (3.5 million euro); an option for an additional 3 hydrogen powered railcars for a total value of 39 million euro (in this case it would be “additional resources that could be made available as part of the experimentation of the hydrogen railway transport system”); an option for ‘full service’ assistance for the additional 3 railcars (2.1 million euros).
The total value of the tender therefore amounts to 109.6 million euroswhile the deadline for submitting offers is set for February 13, 2023.
In Sardiniainstead, after the tender published about ten days ago, ARST launched another two procedures both aimed at carrying out the project – also financed by the Fund complementary to the PNRR – which provides for the introduction of hydrogen trains on the Sassari-Alghero-Fertilia Airport line.
With the first tender, ARTS puts out the tender for “the supply, of a bidirectional Traction Unit (UdT).with electric traction powered by hydrogen gas, to be used on 950 mm gauge railway lines”, which is therefore added to the 8 units of similar type object of the procedure started last December 19th.
In this case, the value of the contract is equal to 16.3 million euro, while the two options connected to the contract, one for the “technical escort” and one for the “full service”, are worth respectively 2.7 million euro and 600,000 euros. The deadline for offers is February 7, 2023.
With a separate procedure, ARST then also put out a tender for “the contract relating to the definitive-executive design, supplies and works necessary for the construction of the Alghero Center – Alghero Airport railway connection, with a hydrogen production plant”. Plant that will serve to power the locomotives covered by the other two tenders mentioned.
In this case, “the total amount of the contract, as per the economic framework, including safety costs and charges for the definitive-executive design, amounts to 82.58 million euros, of which: 78.9 million what amount for the execution of the work; 1.71 million for the final-executive design; 1.97 million security costs (not subject to rebate).”
“Pursuant to art. 35, paragraph 4 of the Code – continues the notice – the estimated maximum global value of the contract, including any option, is equal to 98.75 million euros”.
In this case, the deadline for submitting offers is set for April 26, 2023.
