ReiCat supplies hydrogen recycling systems to leading flavor and fragrance manufacturer Symrise
The gas treatment specialist ReiCat has delivered a large-scale hydrogen recycling system to Symrise’s production site in Spain. Back in 2017, the company had already successfully commissioned its first ReiCat hydrogen recycling system at a site in the United States.
In the production of flavors and fragrances, large volumes of hydrogen are used. The gas itself is not consumed, but it merely picks up impurities during the process. As early as 2017, Symrise recognized the potential to significantly reduce production costs and its CO₂ footprint through hydrogen recycling and commissioned ReiCat to deliver its first system for a site in the United States. Now, a second ReiCat unit has been successfully commissioned at the Granada (Spain) site.
By deploying industrial gas recycling systems, Symrise underscores its innovative strength and pioneering role in sustainable operations.
ReiCat’s recycling system generates significant annual savings
The ReiCat hydrogen recycling system captures the exhaust stream, purifies it in a complex multi-stage process, and returns the high-purity hydrogen back into production. This enables recovery of up to 98% of the hydrogen used, generating significant annual savings. At the same time, CO₂ emissions are avoided that would otherwise result from the production and transport of fresh hydrogen.
Michael Höfling, CEO of ReiCat, said:
We are very pleased to continue our long-standing collaboration with Symrise. With our hydrogen recycling systems, we make an important contribution to the circular economy in industrial processes.
”Projects like this demonstrate that hydrogen recycling is an indispensable complement to Power-to-X. It also plays a vital role in establishing a sustainable hydrogen economy.”
With this project, ReiCat further strengthens its position as a trusted technology partner for hydrogen producers and users worldwide. Since 1982, the company has been delivering tailor-made systems for the purification and recycling of technical gases as a recognized gas treatment specialist – with more than 600 systems installed in 59 countries.
