Resato Hydrogen Technology announces collaboration with APEX Group to build a Large Hydrogen Refueling Station for Trains on Heidekrautbahn.

Resato Hydrogen Technology, a leading specialist in hydrogen solutions, announces a major project in collaboration with APEX Group: a hydrogen refueling station for trains on the Heidekrautbahn in Basdorf, Germany. This initiative follows previous successful collaborations between Resato and APEX Group in the field of hydrogen mobility with buses.

APEX Group (“APEX”) has been awarded the contract in May 2023 in a public tender by Barnimer Energiebeteiligungsgesellschaft mbH (“BEBG”), a subsidiary of Kreiswerke Barnim GmbH based in Brandenburg, Germany. As the general contractor for the project, APEX is responsible for the entire planning in the areas of electrical engineering, control systems and approval procedures as well as for overseeing the construction of the installation of the filling station.

APEX will also assume responsibility for the commissioning of the filling station, including training for the driving personnel as well as for the plant and operating staff.

The upcoming hydrogen fueling station in Basdorf will be one of the largest one Resato Hydrogen Technology has built to date, marking a milestone in the advancement of hydrogen mobility in the region. As a pioneer in hydrogen technology, Resato is ready to refuel larger quantities of hydrogen, further promoting the use of hydrogen as a clean and sustainable fuel.

Rob Castien, CEO of Resato Hydrogen Technology said:

Resato Hydrogen Technology is delighted to collaborate with APEX Group on this promising project on the Heidekrautbahn.

“Our previous collaborations with APEX Group have demonstrated that hydrogen mobility is a feasible and environmentally friendly solution for transportation needs. With this new hydrogen fueling station, we are taking hydrogen mobility to the next level and contributing to a more sustainable future.”

Peter Rößner, CEO of APEX, said:

The Heidekrautbahn will be one of the first hydrogen-powered railway lines in Germany.

“Projects of this type are characterized by a high level of interdisciplinary complexity and, in view of the availability requirements for train operations, places special demands on the technical solutions for the hydrogen infrastructure. Based on the good cooperation with Resato so far, we are looking forward to solving these complex requirements together.”

Heidekrautbahn features a route length of approx. 60 kilometers and plays a crucial role in regional passenger and freight transport between the German federal states Berlin and Brandenburg, and this hydrogen infrastructure will contribute to reducing the ecological footprint of rail transportation in the area.

By supplying technology and know-how to make hydrogen viable as a fuel for trains, Resato Hydrogen Technology and APEX Group are committed to a greener and cleaner future of public transportation.

APEX

APEX Group was founded in Rostock/Laage, Germany, in 2000 and has focused entirely on hydrogen electrolysis plants since 2012. The company is thus one of the pioneers in this field. APEX’s goal is to become an internationally established developer and operator of hydrogen plants. In its core business, APEX develops, builds and sells or operates green hydrogen electrolysis plants with an electrolysis capacity below 1 GW.

These are used to decarbonize industrial value chains and to produce green hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives such as LOHC (liquid organic hydrogen carriers) and e-fuels.

They are used, for example, in the steel, chemical and cement industries as well as other energy intensive industries. In addition, the company offers hydrogen plants for infrastructure and logistics, especially for industrial use in warehouses, ports and production facilities.
