SCZONE Chairman receives the delegation of the Japanese JETRO and representatives of major green hydrogen companies in Sokhna

Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), received this morning, at SCZONE’s headquarters in Sokhna, a delegation of the Japan External Trade Organization “JETRO”. In the presence of representatives of some major international companies working in the field of green hydrogen, and SCZONE leaders. This is within the framework of identifying the serious steps taken by the economic zone towards localizing this important industry as well as the complementary and feeding industries, in line with the Egyptian vision aimed at transforming into a green economy.

Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien declared

“SCZONE has made many efforts to localize the green hydrogen industry, whether by investing heavily in infrastructure and world-class facilities, especially those that serve the green fuel industry such as desalination plants.

SCZONE has a clear vision to be the green fuel hub, through operational steps on the ground. These steps are represented in the adoption of the first green fuel project within Sokhna integrated zone, the “Egypt Green Hydrogen” project, which began production only 10 months after its announcement at the COP27 Summit, and the export of the first green ammonia shipment to India in November 2023, and succeeded in securing a contract worth approximately 400 million euros to supply renewable ammonia to the European Union. SCZONE-affiliated ports have also succeeded in restoring bunkering activities, whether with conventional or green fuels.”

“SCZONE has many incentives, low operating costs compared to other countries, and the special incentives introduced for the automotive industry provided by the Egyptian government through the National Automotive Strategy. Egypt is interested in attracting major car manufacturers and suppliers of components and spare parts to expand and increase the proportion of local components, which has a direct impact on that important sector.”
SCZONE Chairman declared

This was followed by the Chairman of SCZONE receiving questions and inquiries from representatives of green hydrogen companies. He stressed SCZONE’s openness to partnerships with various parties to localize the green fuel industry and meet the global needs of this new energy. He pointed to the series of investment incentives the Egyptian government has announced for the green fuel industry sector, which enhances SCZONE’s attractiveness as a leading hub for green fuels locally and globally. He also stressed the need for cooperation between all parties and stakeholders to achieve time leaps in the green fuel sector, especially in light of Egypt’s availability of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energy. He explained that SCZONE’s strenuous steps in the field of green fuels could not have been achieved without the support of success partners and Egyptian institutions.

The delegation went on a field tour to Sokhna integrated zone, during which they got acquainted with some industrial edifices within SCZONE, especially in the field of green fuels, which reflects the success of the effective partnership between the public and private sectors. The delegation also visited Sokhna Port, which is considered the largest hub port on the Red Sea, after massive development work at all levels, including berths, basins and yards, to bring it to the ranks of the world in trading volumes and receiving various types and sizes of ships.
