Significant milestone for landmark Hydrogen Jobs Plan.

The Hydrogen Jobs Plan has secured development approval, a significant milestone that propels the state closer to becoming a global leader in renewable hydrogen production and innovation.

The project is being delivered by the Office of Hydrogen Power SA and its Early Contractor Involvement partners ATCO Australia, BOC, and Epic Energy.

The rigorous development approval process involves an independent and comprehensive assessment by both State and Commonwealth regulatory agencies. The development approval provides detailed insights into the planning and preparation of this world-leading facility, including its location, site design, and how potential environmental and socio-economic impacts will be eliminated or reduced.

Site works for the Hydrogen Jobs Plan are expected to begin in late 2024, marking the start of a sustainable hydrogen industry in South Australia.

With the Hydrogen Jobs Plan’s development application approval now secured, momentum on the project continues to build with the release of nine Early Civil Works packages(external site)(external site) for expressions of interest through the ICN (Industry Capability Network) Gateway.

These work packages include significant works such as site establishment, clearing and grubbing, bulk earthworks, site fencing and signage, stormwater infrastructure, access roads and kerb and gutter installation.

With the project attracting more than 700 general registrations of interest on the ICN Gateway, and attendance of almost 500 people across two early industry briefings in Whyalla, there has been strong interest from local businesses wanting to help deliver this innovative project.

Expressions of interest close on Tuesday, 3 September 2024. An industry open day is being held on Tuesday, 27 August 2024, with local contractors and businesses invited to speak to representatives from Office of Hydrogen Power SA and ATCO Australia about these opportunities.

Tom Koutsantonis, said:

The approval of the Hydrogen Jobs Plan development application shows that not only are we delivering a world-leading renewable hydrogen facility in the Upper Spencer Gulf, but we are doing so in a manner that is safe and minimises any negative impact on the local environment and Whyalla community.

“The release of these work packages is a major step forward for the Hydrogen Jobs Plan, demonstrating how close we are to commencing construction on this ground-breaking facility.

There is no shortage of businesses in Whyalla and across the Upper Spencer Gulf well equipped to deliver this work, and we want to see as many local organisations as possible involved from the get-go”.
