Sprintex delivers first of EU-funded fuel cell compressors for hydrogen shipping project.
Sprintex Ltd (ASX:SIX) is on its way to making a name for itself in the clean energy market with the delivery of an initial A$270,000 e-compressor order for Europe’s €14 million hydrogen-powered cruise liner decarbonisation program.
The initial order, via blue chip engineering consultancy Ricardo UK Ltd, is for the new Sprintex S26 ultra-highspeed e-compressor, the smallest and lightest compressor in its 25-kilowatt class, for hydrogen fuel cell and other applications.
The EU Government-funded Sustainable Hydrogen Powered Shipping Project (sHYpS) includes the re-powering of six cruise liners, each with 16 modular hydrogen fuel cell power units of about 6 megawatts each for a total of 96 megawatts per ship.
Milestone achievement
Sprintex, a leading high-speed electric compressor technology company, expects revenue of about A$1.5 million for a six-ship trial.
“We are very pleased to continue to mark off the milestones as we establish ourselves in the rapidly changing clean energy market,” Sprintex managing director Jay Upton said.
“The S26 order is another important step for Sprintex on its path to becoming a technology leader in the high-speed electric compressor industry.”
About the project
The sHYpS, with 13 partners across six countries including Ricardo, aims to support the decarbonisation of the shipping industry, by leveraging on previous and ongoing work and investment made by the consortium members.
The project will develop a novel liquid hydrogen swappable storage solution, which can be adapted to multiple types of vessels.
