The Port of Suape, the Pernambuco Gas Company (Copergás) and Qair Brasil study the partnership of the companies in a pilot project for the production of green hydrogen in Pernambuco.

The product would be destined, through copergás’s distribution network, to the company’s industrial customers in the Ipojuca region, one of the eight municipalities located around the port complex.

In a meeting between the Director of Environment and Sustainability of the Port of Suape, Carlos André Cavalcanti, the technical-commercial director of the Pernambuco Gas Company (Copergás), Fabrício Bomtempo, and the Director of Operations of Qair Brazil, Gustavo Silva, it was defined the preparation of a memorandum of understanding between the three companies in order to analyze the viability of the project.

Fabrício Bomtempo, said:

We understand that green hydrogen is an energy alternative that will be made possible in the coming years and we, within the commitment to the environment and sustainability, have every interest in promoting the production of gas of renewable origin and demonstrate the potential of Pernambuco, aiming at attracting new investments.

Carlos Cavalcanti, said:

The construction and formalization of this tripartite partnership is fundamental for the development of the green hydrogen production chain in the Suape Port Industrial Complex.

“With this, we intend to deepen the economic feasibility studies of the future market, aiming to structure the scale of production, storage and progressive distribution through copergás pipeline network in the complex, and having as its starting point a small-scale production unit”, he added.

Qair Brasil is a subsidiary of the French multinational group Qair International, which operates in 17 countries with projects in the area of sustainable development and energy transition.

In Pernambuco, Qair already has a large project under development in the Port of Suape, where the group’s investment can reach R$ 20 billion. The expected capacity is 2,240 MW, with production of 488,000 tons/year. Thanks for staying up to date with Hydrogen Central.

The project will be installed in two areas, with approximately 110 hectares. “The final configuration of each project will be defined from the results and conclusions of the ongoing feasibility studies,” says qair Brasil information material, which sees the country with the potential to become “one of the world’s leading players” in green hydrogen production in the future.
