Sweco is commissioned by VOLTH2 to design two green hydrogen factories in the port area of North Sea Port. Thanks to these 25 megawatt hydrogen electrolysis installations, millions of kilos of hydrogen will be produced via wind energy within a few years.
Hydrogen is seen as an important element to make our energy mix more sustainable. Until now, however, hydrogen has been largely produced from natural gas. With the two planned hydrogen plants, green hydrogen is generated with electricity from wind energy at sea. For the construction, use is made of technology that has already been used successfully in the industry and that is available from various suppliers.
Local filling stations can also be supplied through the integration of hydrogen storage. Due to its design, the green hydrogen plant will be expandable to 100 megawatts with a potential production of approximately 15 million kg of green hydrogen per year. In comparison: with the energy from 1 kg of hydrogen, a passenger car can travel about 100 km.

International team
In the first project phase, Sweco is responsible for the entire design, the necessary permits and the subsidies. With an international team of Belgian and Dutch specialists, Sweco is able to implement the entire project integrally.
