Tasmania Government reaches agreement with Belgium on hydrogen exports.
The Tasmanian Government has signed its second memorandum of understanding on green hydrogen with a European body within two months.
The agreement was signed with the region of Flanders in Northern Belgium, the first to be signed by the region.
Energy Minister Guy Barnett on Thursday said it was the first state-to-state agreement the government had signed regarding green hydrogen.

“The scope of this MOU extends beyond exporting and importing green hydrogen,” he said.
“Synergies have also been identified between the two states in more niche areas, such as the use of green hydrogen in aquaculture operations and offshore energy systems as well as in the shipping sector.”

The new memorandum of understanding follows one signed in mid-December between the government and the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

The Tasmanian Renewable Hydrogen Action Plan sets a goal for the state to be a leader in large scale green hydrogen production by 2030 for domestic needs and export demand.
Analysis by Hydro Tasmania indicates that Tasmanian renewable hydrogen production could be up to 15 per cent cheaper than on mainland Australia.
