The Basque Hydrogen Corridor closes a “historic” 2023 and with a total of 50 projects.
The Basque Hydrogen Corridor (BH2C) has described the year 2023 as “historic” both for its more than 70 partners and for Euskadi with the first “leading in Europe” projects in the sector. In total, its partners have 50 projects that only need “clear” European legislation and the support of European funds to become “a reality.”
In a statement, the president of BH2C, José Ignacio Zudaire, has cited some of the projects such as the start-up of the world’s first manufacturing plant for palladium alloy membranes to obtain hydrogen from ammonia or methanol through H2Site company; the inauguration of the Nortegás H2Sarea, which promotes the injection of green hydrogen into the current natural gas network; or the manufacture of the first hydrogen bus prototype by the Irizar company.
He also highlighted that the tests of the CAF and Talgo hydrogen trains have begun
, Calvera has launched a standardized range of hydrogen stations in three formats and Petronor has already launched the first electrolyzer in Euskadi, of 2.5 megawatts (MW). “.
Zudaire offered these details at the BH2C Annual Assembly, which was held in what is now its new headquarters: the Energy Intelligence Center (EIC) Building, located in Abanto-Zierbena.
Additionally, also in 2023, Mission Innovation and the Clean Hydrogen Partnership have officially recognized and certified the BH2C as a global example of a Hydrogen Valley.
The Association has carried out 85 activities in 2023 to position the Basque Hydrogen Corridor in the administrations, both Basque, Spanish and European, as a strategic project.
In addition, it has also emphasized the search for alliances, cooperation and associations that strengthen and grow BH2C, as well as
participation in different fairs and events.
Currently, the Association has 50 projects from its partners throughout the value chain, which makes it, as I have highlighted, “a lever to transform the productive fabric and maintain the weight of the industry in the Basque economy.
As indicated, these fifty projects only need “clear European legislation and the support of European funds to
become a reality.” As of today, of those 50 projects, 31 have been submitted to a call for aid, of which 22 are approved and 70% of the projects presented are currently underway.
On the other hand, in 2024, the BH2C will continue with the objective of energizing its internal activities with the aim of facilitating synergies and collaborations and promoting the development of the different projects that are part of the Association through the meetings of its verticals, which They are divided into Production, Transportation, Distribution and Storage, Industry and Mobility.
Furthermore, BH2C will continue to strive to optimize the challenges of the different public aid programs and continue consolidating its positioning and image as a “reference initiative in the field of Hydrogen both at the national and international level.”
