The ICMM-CSIC becomes part of Hydrogen Europe Research, a European network that promotes research in clean hydrogen.
The Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the main public research organization in Spain, has formally joined Hydrogen Europe Research, a network consisting of over 150 institutions across Europe aimed at advancing research on clean hydrogen and fuel cells on the continent. CSIC’s entry into this network will provide access to resources and European funding opportunities related to non-polluting hydrogen technology, aligning with CSIC’s ongoing work.
One of its leading institutes in this field, the Institute of Chemical Technology (ITQ), a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence jointly operated by CSIC and the Universitat Politècnica de València, leads the institution’s participation in this network, which includes 10 other centers, including the Institute of Materials Science in Madrid (ICMM-CSIC).
Hydrogen Europe Research (HER) is a non-profit entity with scientific and academic purposes. Its objective is to coordinate and promote European research and public agenda related to hydrogen and fuel cells. Specifically, it represents research organizations in this sector and their relationship with the European hydrogen partnership (Clean Hydrogen Partnership). HER provides technical advice, active participation in the European partnership, strategic analysis, and involvement in projects to the research community.
Participation in HER working groups such as policy and ad-hoc skills allows members to contribute to policy and strategy formulation and address specific challenges in the field of hydrogen. Additionally, the new Low TRL Research and Research and Technology Infrastructures groups offer the opportunity to engage in emerging technology research and infrastructure development, laying the groundwork for future advancements in the hydrogen industry. Active participation in these working groups not only provides a platform for knowledge and experience exchange but also enables members to significantly contribute to progress and innovation in the field of hydrogen in Europe.
The HER network consists of prestigious scientific and academic institutions from various countries: over 150 research and technology organizations, companies, research centers, and universities from all over Europe working in the field of hydrogen energy, providing a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange.
Therefore, CSIC’s accession to HER will enable closer collaboration with other research institutions and industry players in this field in Europe, contributing to increasing the visibility and impact of Spanish research in this area. Additionally, CSIC’s membership will provide access to networks and resources, such as funding opportunities for hydrogen technology-related research projects through programs like Horizon Europe.
Eleven CSIC centers participate in the network:
1. Institute of Chemical Technology (ITQ).
2. Institute of Catalysis and Petrochemicals (ICP).
3. Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2).
4. Institute of Carbochemistry (ICB).
5. Institute of Ceramics and Glass (ICV).
6. Institute of Materials Science in Madrid (ICMM).
7. Institute of Materials Science in Seville (ICMS).
8. Carbon Science and Technology Institute (INCAR).
9. Institute of Science and Technology of Polymers (ICTP).
10. Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragon (INMA).
11. Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME).”
