The International Association for Hydrogen Energy has a new President and Executive Vice Presidents
In September 2024, the International Association for Hydrogen Energy (IAHE) members voted to appoint four (4) members from the Board of Directors as President and Executive Vice Presidents.
The IAHE elected individuals who will provide leadership and representation as the Association continues to move forward with its strategic objectives, plans and initiatives. The new leadership will actively guide the Association’s ambitions and aspirations as it continues to contribute towards carbon neutrality globally.
Dr. Ayfer Veziroglu, esteemed spouse of the late and renowned Dr. Turhan Nejat Veziroglu, who has been working for the IAHE since 2002 as Coordinator, Financial Officer, Executive VP and CFO, has taken the helm as President of the IAHE. Ayfer steps into her new role with purpose; she is not just defining a mission, but she is also sketching a blueprint for a hydrogen-powered future. Her message echoes:

Dr. Ayfer Veziroglu knows that collaboration is the hydrogen molecule of progress. In her new position, she will be forging partnerships with research institutions, industry titans, and government bodies. Fuel cells, electrolysers, low-carbon and renewable hydrogen production, natural hydrogen, storage and distribution breakthroughs—they are all on her radar!

Dr. Frano Barbir will act as Executive Vice President responsible for the IAHE Divisions and Student Chapters. The IAHE currently has nine (9) divisions covering various aspects of hydrogen energy. If required, new divisions will be created to keep up with the trends and cover all aspects of hydrogen energy. In addition, the IAHE also has Student Chapters to ensure bright future for hydrogen and the IAHE. Dr. Barbir will coordinate and monitor the activities of the IAHE Divisions and Student Chapters, working closely with the Divisions’ and Chapters’ Presidents.

Dr. Bruno G. Pollet will act as Executive Vice President and Spokesperson. He will be responsible for effectively communicating the Association’s message, values, and objectives to the public, media, board members, and members. This role is crucial in shaping the Association’s public image and ensuring consistent, clear, and compelling communication across all channels. Dr. Pollet will act as the contact for media inquiries, develop and maintain relationships, as well as managing interviews. He will also advocate for the Association’s interests with policymakers, industry leaders, and other influential entities.

Dr. Giuseppe Spazzafumo will take up the role of Executive Vice President of Conference Management, a position that will play a pivotal role in advancing the mission of the IAHE by overseeing the strategic planning, execution, and evaluation of all conferences, events, and related activities. Dr. Spazzafumo will ensure that all events align with the Association’s objectives, deliver value to members, and enhance the IAHE’s reputation within the industry. This role requires developing and implementing a comprehensive strategy for all conferences and events, ensuring alignment with the association’s mission and objectives. Dr. Spazzafumo will lead the planning, production, and delivery of annual conferences, workshops, and other special events, ensuring a high-quality experience for all participants. He will also collaborate with senior leadership to set conference goals, objectives, and metrics for success.
