The pilot hydrogen plant promoted by the Port Authority of Vigo obtains environmental authorization.
The future pilot plant for the production and supply of green hydrogen in the Port of Vigo, within the Julio Verne project promoted by the Port Authority of Vigo, obtains environmental authorization from the Xunta de Galicia. The Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change has favorably resolved the request for Integrated Environmental Authorization (AAI) for the project of the company Julio Verne Hidrogeno Puerto de Vigo SL for the installation of the plant at the Bouzas dock.
The project consists of the construction and operation of a public hydrogen dispensing station with the generation of 2 megawatts (MW) of power . Hydrogen production will be carried out through water electrolysis, a process in which renewable energy will be used. In fact, the hydrogen generation facility will be made up of four electrolyzers of between 390 and 450 megawatts of power each and will occupy an approximate area of 200 square meters.
After the technical analysis of the entire file and the possible derived impacts, the Xunta concludes that the project is environmentally viable as long as the conditions indicated in the integrated environmental authorization itself. In fact, the authorization includes the description, conditions, duties and rights that the promoters of this initiative must comply with.
This resolution completes the steps for the facility to obtain the necessary environmental permits to carry out the project, given that its implementation requires it to be subject to an integrated environmental authorization, a figure of administrative intervention that establishes the environmental conditions for carrying out this activity .
