Ukraine and Austria will cooperate in hydrogen energy
First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denis Shmyhal and Federal Minister for Economy, Energy and Tourism of Austria Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer signed a memorandum on cooperation in the field of renewable hydrogen.
This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
According to Denis Shmyhal, the document provides for the development of production, the creation of infrastructure for hydrogen storage and transportation, as well as attracting investment in this sector. Separately, the parties discussed other bilateral agreements, in particular regarding the production of energy equipment for the restoration of Ukraine’s energy sector.
Shmyhal noted that Ukrainian and Austrian businesses have established close cooperation in various energy sectors. In particular, Austrian companies already store gas in Ukrainian storage facilities. In this context, the parties discussed expanding cooperation in Ukrainian underground gas storage and joint gas production projects. LLC “Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine” is considering the possibility of creating the first hydrogen energy facility based on one of the international connectors, with further deployment of infrastructure through the Carpathians.
