Wasco Australia has been appointed by Lion Energy to prepare front-end engineering design (FEED) for its first hydrogen production and refuelling station in Australia. The FEED is estimated to be completed by the end of July 2022.
Wasco is a leading integrated services group primarily serving the oil and gas industry. The company provides full EPC delivery of upstream projects using its in-house recourses and partner specialist services.
Its team includes specialist discipline engineering, RPEQ, project management, procurement and fabrication personnel as well as experienced and reliable field personnel to take projects from concept to commissioning.
Mel Whyte, Managing director of Wasco Australia, said:
We are very pleased to be selected by Lion Energy to deliver this important FEED package and look forward to working with Lion Energy and its other delivery partners as it continues to seek opportunities in Green Hydrogen production, storage and distribution in Australia.
Wasco was the EPC contractor for Australia’s first major hydrogen station, the Jemena West Sydney project, which was completed in 2021. The $15 million trial project utilised solar and wind energy to generate green hydrogen that was injected and stored in Jemena’s NSW gas network.
During the project, Wasco constructed a new PEM electrolyser facility with an underground hydrogen storage pipeline and hydrogen storage and handling systems.
Tom Soulsby, Lion Energy chairman, said:
The appointment of Wasco follows on from our previously released work with GPA Engineering, Queensland University of Technology and the Australian Road and Research Board.
“Lion has leveraged those studies to focus our business development and marketing on the heavy mobility markets in Eastern Australia. Lion is now assessing multiple locations for the operation.”
“We are excited to progress the work further to appoint Wasco for the FEED and this is a key milestone for Lion.”
