Wheel speed simulation RDG-SIM gains international attention – SMART TESTSOLUTIONS.

With the acceleration of information exchange via CAN bus, the intelligent wheel speed simulation RDG-SIM from SMART TESTSOLUTIONS has become more interesting for many users. Enquiries are coming in from all over the world. The higher speed makes it possible to use it in HiL systems from a wide range of manufacturers.

As early as 2020, SMART TESTSOLUTIONS modified the software of the RDG-SIM in such a way that all four wheel speed encoders of the assembly can be controlled with only one command instead of four commands as before. Information transfer and processing take place in millisecond cycles.

Wolfgang Neu, Managing Director of SMART TESTSOLUTIONS and responsible for the speed simulation and speed measurement technology product group:

This dynamic makes our RDG-SIM wheel speed simulation module compatible for use in hardware-in-the-loop test benches.

“Remote control continues via CAN bus, so that you can easily expand an existing HiL system to include speed simulation”

With the RDG-SIM, up to four wheel speed sensors can be simulated in parallel. All common wheel speed sensor types can be represented, from simple incremental encoder sensors to intelligent sensors such as Hall sensors to complex sensor types that work with AK signals. Current levels from 3 to 32 milliamps (mA), speeds from 0 to 300 kilometres per hour and wheel circumferences from 1000 to 2500 millimetres can be simulated. The assembly has been on the market since 2009 and has been continuously developed since then.

Apparently, the demand is still great. In the meantime, SMART TESTSOLUTION is receiving enquiries from all over the world. Since the module communicates via the CAN bus, it can also be used without problems for test applications where no complete HiL system is used. Here it can be connected to a normal PC via the CAN bus interface and operated in manual mode or via scripting. “This is considerably more convenient and cheaper than using a HiL for this purpose,” says Neu.
