WSP appointed as Technical Advisor to UK Government on Hydrogen
The new Hydrogen Technical Advisor contract will see WSP support DESNZ in shaping and delivering policies to accelerate the deployment of low-carbon hydrogen projects across the UK.
05 November 2025 – United Kingdom
WSP, one of the world’s leading professional services firms, has been appointed by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) as the lead of two suppliers providing specialist technical advice on the development of the UK’s hydrogen economy.
The new Hydrogen Technical Advisor contract will see WSP support DESNZ in shaping and delivering policies to accelerate the deployment of low-carbon hydrogen projects across the UK.
Under the contract, WSP will provide technical, engineering and regulatory advice to DESNZ on hydrogen production, transport, storage and power applications, as well as business model development, certification schemes, and market frameworks.
This latest appointment builds on WSP’s ongoing advisory roles to DESNZ on Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) and Greenhouse Gas Removals (GGR), positioning the firm as a key partner in advancing the UK’s low-carbon transition.
Dominic Cook, Project Director for Low Carbon, WSP said:
We’re looking forward to supporting DESNZ as they develop and deliver the UK’s hydrogen strategy.
“Building on our existing roles in CCUS and GGR, this appointment allows us to continue helping the UK move from policy ambition to delivery reality in its decarbonisation journey.”
The contract is one of the first to be awarded under the new DESNZ Professional Services Framework, through which WSP has secured a place as a prime supplier on four lots and a subcontractor on the remaining three lots.
WSP will be supported in the delivery of this work by its established supply chain (including Turner & Townsend).
