Kolya-PNE develops a project to produce 1,000 MW of green hydrogen in Albacete.

It will create around a thousand jobs during construction and more than a hundred highly specialized jobs once completed.

The promoter of large solar projects Kolya-PNE , a Spanish subsidiary of the German group PNE, plans to develop a hydrogen production plant in the province of Albacete with an electrolyzer power of 1,000 megawatts (MW). The energy supply will be carried out through a combination of wind and photovoltaic energy. Both types of energy generation will have a power of 1,000 MW each .

Kolya-PNE estimates that the total investment in the project will reach 3 billion euros , generating between 200 and 1,000 jobs during construction (depending on the phase) and around 100 during the operation of the plant, most of them from high qualification.

The company announced the project at a recent meeting in Toledo, in which the Minister of Sustainable Development, Mercedes Gómez , participated ; and the members of the Board of Directors of Kolya-PNE, Juanjo José Moreno, Héctor García , Holger Boy and its development director Jesús Pacheco. This meeting served to officially present the project to the Community Board of Castilla-La Mancha and to exchange impressions on the development of the thriving energy sector in the region.

Gómez and the representatives of Kolya-PNE have agreed in pointing out that the autonomous community, and specifically Albacete, is an ideal location for the production of green hydrogen due to its growing energy demand . A privileged location due to the industrial zone that Albacete has, the Los Llanos Air Base, the proximity to the Valencian Community, its capital, Valencia, and its very diverse industrial environment, with ports such as Valencia and Sagunto and the ceramic industry. and stained glass, among other aspects, are factors that justify the strategic suitability of its location. Added to the above is the future H2 hydroduct, which Enagás is developing in collaboration with the European Union.

First steps of the project

Kolya-PNE has already secured the necessary surface area for the wind farms and photovoltaic installations that the installation will require , as well as the water supply necessary for the operation of the electrolyzer. He is currently holding talks with the city councils of the eight municipalities involved and the regional government to take together the next steps in the development of the project.

The selection of the land has been made giving priority to the minimization of environmental effects and the presence of a multitude of owners in order to, in this way, provide value in a distributed manner in the area.

The Kolya-PNE project has already passed the first phases of environmental analysis carried out by an external environmental consultancy, and the technical work is being finalized to validate the technical and economic proposal.

As a company with a marked local character in the region, Kolya-PNE has proposed measures to minimize the effects that the project could cause in the territory, contributing to the socioeconomic development of the community. Among them, the creation of Local Energy Communities (CEL) in the surrounding municipalities, and agreements with educational centers and the University of Castilla-La Mancha for the training of people who work on the project.

Kolya-PNE, an alliance for the development of renewables and green hydrogen in Spain

Kolya is a company established in Albacete since 2019 that develops renewable projects, mainly photovoltaic, with professionals with more than 20 years of experience in the sector. Since 2022, it has been part of the international PNE group, with the entry into its capital of the company PNE-AG, based in Germany. The PNE Group has been in the sector for more than 25 years and currently has 600 employees and a presence in 15 countries and four continents.

The company is a specialist in wind developments, with more than 7,000 MW of developed projects . It is the second company in operation and maintenance management in Germany by volume, with more than 2,700 MW. It currently has large-scale hydrogen projects similar to the one proposed in Albacete in development in countries such as Poland and South Africa.

With this alliance, Kolya’s experience in photovoltaic developments and knowledge of local regulations and business are combined with the experience in wind and hydrogen projects of a large Group such as PNE, as well as its strong technical and financial potential.
