The Cabinet of Egypt approved a number of proposals to support the deployment and use of green hydrogen and renewable energy in different regions of the country.

The Cabinet decided to allocate 141,075 feddans of state-owned land located in the Matrouh Governorate for renewable energy projects at a meeting held in the New Administrative Capital. Under the usufruct program, the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), is authorized to offer the land to potential investors.

A number of land parcels in the southern Egyptian governorates of Aswan and Sohag were also made available for wind projects.

The Cabinet also approved the allocation of another 303.3 hectares in Matrouh to establish production capacity for green hydrogen as well as green ammonia. This decision supports Egypt’s ambitions to be a regional hub of green energy exports.

This year’s COP 27 climate summit in Sharm El Sheikh, November gave a boost to the North African country’s renewable energy sector. Egypt made 55 GW of green energy projects during that month.
